Madrid Store...lola Tina's store in romblon, romblon

lola tina's store in romblon by Fam Madrid on Lunes, 22 de febrero de 2010 a las 10:23 p.m.

dear diary,

okay, i also hope beth will be taking a more active role soon. but i've
not heard from her in what more than a week now. she must be very busy
with her aqua therapy. i hope her knee is getting better.

i'll look up her emails about the ideas she wanted to pursue regarding
not only the newsletter but also other activities which the clan could
undertake. i hope i still have them in my files.

i'll also look up tita josie's and tita perlynn's congratulatory emails
and send them to you if i still have them.

well, we still have a long way to go before we can gather as much
materials about the life story of your lolo badong and lolo tina as we
have to so that the same can be properly written down for the benefit of
future generations.

but, as should be the case, i think the older folks like nanay et al.
would have much more to recall and write about that life story because
my recollection would go only as far back to the time when they were
more or less already established in romblon, although i'm the only one
who was born there and who grew up there from birth more or less,
excepting the time we went somewhere else during the japanese
occupation. when and how we came back to romblon i cannot recall now,
although i'm sure i attended school there from grade one to high school.

of course, juling will have to be mentioned along the way since she was
almost part of the family as well. it was your uncle pepito who met her
in his law office in dasmarinas, sta. cruz, manila sometime in 1963 or
thereabouts when i was reviewing for the cpa board exams. i think that
was when uncle pepito recruited her to be our househelp in morning
breeze. uncle ted or tita ine can confirm this because i recall they
were still residing there at the time.

but she was not involved in your lola's business in romblon until your
lola left romblon to come here.juling agreed to stay in romblon to look
after your lolo badong. and she was the one who handled the store after
your lolo died. but juling never really got involved too much in the
handling of the business except that maybe she handled a few business
matters in manila for your lola every now and then. but yes, she was a
loyal to us up to the very end. and i think she was the one who also
helped us get our other househelps after she left including the yaya of
bing who later on went back to school in antique and kept writing us
until she finished her teaching course and came back to stay with us in
morning breeze during which your tita baby helped her get a teaching job
in caloocan. it was then through bing's yaya that suseth came to us not
long after and that was i think some 15 years ago, if i'm not mistaken.

but the one who really helped your lola was mang takio because he was
the one who contracted to take care of fetching the empty cans from the
pier as they were unloaded from the boat from romblon and would take
your lola's orders to the her suppliers in divisoria, then pick the cans
filled up with those orders and other packages and crates from those
suppliers and would hire trucking services to bring them to the pier and
load them on the boat bound for romblon. later on, he sued your lola for
alleged retirement benefits as an employee of your lola. your uncle
pepito and i handled that case before the labor department and we just
settled the case considering the mutually beneficial relations that your
lola and mang takio had during the good old days.

well, i guess you have some additional materials here for your database
which we can use later on when we proceed in earnest to write a cohesive
account of the life story of your lolo badong and lola tina.

i suppose either beth or you could write that story based on the
materials all of us are able to submit to the database.

love,

uncle
