dear sonia,
honor forwarded to me your email informing her that tia Juana has passed away... i am very sorry to hear this very sad news.... please accept our condolences ... i will write my children in the philippines so they could pay their lola Juana their last respects... i'll ask them to get in touch with their tita netty for details...
i could hardly believe what has happened because tia Juana seemed still so strong and healthy when we saw her in munoz during our last visit to the philippines...She even autographed two copies of her book, Pre-spanish Philippines, for our granddaughter justine and grandson aljon... her signature seemed to come from a steady hand and was quite legible...
i will now treasure even more the picture they had taken when she, josie and george, attended a mini family reunion in fairview...i have always taken pride that among all the nephews and nieces of tia Juana, it was only that house in fairview that she graced by her presence...also, i will now cherish even more the fact that baby and i were privileged enough to have a copy of her book autographed by her on Nov. 1, 1998, with the notation, "my remembrance to Bomboy and Baby - From the author..." i doubt if any nephew or niece of tia Juana has had the same privilege... and it was very opportune because she did it on her very birthday...
and how can i forget that evening when we visited gen malvar and you were about to go out for dinner with her at that filipino restaurant at edsa, together with yourself, bill, marissa ( i hope i got her name right), netty and joe, and so unexpectedly, we got invited to come along...
of course, i have many fond memories of tia Juana when i was still a very small kid when papa and i used to stay with you in gen malvar whenever papa had some official business to do in manila... those daily evening rosary hours we had...how can i ever forget them....and i also fondly remember that one summer vacation when we worked with tia Juana making the papier-mache for dolls when she and netty were in the doll making business...kuyang romy, pepito, doring, and even kuyang salvador worked for tia Juana at the time...
i will certainly miss tia Juana very much...
regards,
bomboy
