dear diary,



                                           

the information i now have with respect to birthdays is the result of the suggestion of your tita honor that the bm clan should have a calendar of not only birthdays but also of other dates like... wedding anniversaries and death anniversaries....

the Fam Madrid facebook is the result of the suggestion of junix that maybe we can use facebook in pursuing the purposes for which the bm clan was organized... i thought everyone would welcome this idea so i did try to find a way to put up this fam madrid facebook... of course, we all realize the advantage of having facebook take the place of the bm clan newsletter for those who are in facebook... it will be recalled that
the BmClan Newsletter was the brainchild of ate aurora...she wrote an introductory sketch on the life of Impong Bibiana Cuevas Madrid in one the first issues of the newsletter...

with respect to birthdays, facebook again has an advantage because it posts reminders of the birthdays of those who are in facebook....

same with emails, because a facebook account starts with having an email address... mostly, yahoo ones.... and i have gotten email addresses from facebook accounts...

but yes, we can set up a directory of email addresses too... especially, if there is a way of getting email addresses of people who are not in facebook... because there are family members who are not there... before, i found it easy to look for email addresses... now, i seem to be unable to find them in the internet searches... maybe you can give me some tips on this....

and by the way, although your tita honor is not in facebook, she has already given me consent to post therein two of her emails to me which have something to do with family matters... first, her email to me regarding the funeral services for sen ted kennedy, and yesterday, her email about lessons from the refrigerator... if you have time, please go visit our facebook account.... or better still, post some items there like kuyang winnie's boston and harvard trip....

l myself have found facebook informative.. there are many postings in the fam madrid made by younger members of the acejas clan and i don't even know many of them... i write to them and ask who they are... and i also look them up in the family sketches that i made before... of course, they are mainly from kuyang salvador's branch of the family... and so, i am able to trace who these youngs are..

like the daughter of alice b. acejas, she was in the grade school only when we had the bm clan newsletter... from facebook we see that she just graduated from miriam college this march with a degree in phschology... and i even asked her for some tips on how to deal with my anxieties and paranoia....

there are items in fam madrid which you might also find interesting if you just look them over... like do you know what the second husband of bibiana madrid did for a living... or that she even had a second husband... the father of your lola florentina j. acejas... you know we have family roots... and we should be glad we can still trace them for our own benefit and for the benefit of the younger generation of our family...

dear diary,

sayang at hindi mabuksan ng webtv dito yong pinorward mo na happy
thanksgiving email. siguro colored itong email na ito kaya hirap na
hirap ma-access ng webtv ito.

pero, sigurado ako na ito ay isang magandang pagbati tungkol sa darating
na thanksgiving day kaya maraming salamat sa nasabing pagbati. ganoon
din, happy thanksgiving day sa inyong lahat at doon sa mga nasa
provident village at iba pa nating kamag-anak at mga kaibigan at mga
kakilala sa metro manila.. dahil silang lahat ay nakaligtas sa naging
malaking pagbaha noong nakaraan ilang buwan ay meron talaga tayong
lahat na mahalagang bagay na dapat pasalamatan sa thanksgiving day.
at idagdag pa natin dyan yong pangyayari na si tia juana ay nagcelebrate
kailan lang ng kanyang ika isang daang taong kaarawan ay talaga naman
na marami rami talaga tayong lahat na dapat pasalamatan sa araw ng
thanksgiving.

isa pa dito yong tatlong taon na ngayon ang nakalilipas mula noong ako
ay nagkaroon ng open heart surgery kung saan ako ay nagkaroon ng
quadruple by-pass. isa pa itong malalim na dahilan para kami at sana
pati kayo kung inyong mararapatin ay malugod na magpasalamat sa Poong
Maykapal sa araw ng thanksgiving day.

mara-rami pa tayong iba't ibang blessings na natanggap nitong taong ito
na dapat din nating pasalamatan sa nasabing araw. siguro hindi na natin
kailangang ilista pa ng isa isa ang mga blessings na ito. pero
sigurado ako na lahat tayo ay marami pang mga bagay bagay na dapat
pasalamatan sa Panginoon hindi lang siguro sa thanksgiving day kundi
pati na rin sa araw araw ng ating buhay.

ganoon pa man, happy thanksgiving sa inyong lahat. sana maging masaya at
memorable ang araw na ito para sa ating lahat.

All about family reunions

dear diary,

 andre's bday is may 5 also. i'm sorry i have not
been doing my job as recorder of the birthdays of the
members of the family of impo. in any case we wish elliot
a happy birthday too.

it is interesting to note that andre is also the name of
melding's son. melding is actually my kumare as she
stood as one of the principal sponsors at the baptism of
allan. when he had a fever when he was still a baby. i
remember melding giving him a bath to bring his
fever down which was a bit surprising to us then and maybe
even still now to some.

the mini reunion was to my mind a success. ate
mais,kuyang renee's wife, and the family of jun aberin
were the first to arrive. then came kuya winnie, joan, and
son joaquin, who we learned is already good at playing
tennis at his young age of seven. winnie even demonstrated
to me his serve. he will soon start learning to play golf,
if he has not already done so.

anyway, i thought no one else would be arriving
since they already started to eat but then kuyang
romy, linda, casey, wife and son, came, and then ate
zeny and lilia came with some members of the family, and
finally, linda and joren came. friends of allan and tess
alsol came. of course, ine wife of lannie with two sons mac
mac and rap rap and erning and baby, a niece of my wife
baby, actually helped in the preparations as they came three
days earlier.

i showed kuyang romy the picture of that mini reunion they
had at fairview with tia juana in attendance which i told
you about earlier. then kuyamg romy asked why he is not in
the picture because he said he recalls that he attended a
reunion in fairview too. we all told him that the one he
attended was the reunion we held in fairview when kuyang
ted, ate ine and cecile came home to be wedding sponsors of
net and benjie. the picture i showed him was clearly taken
after that reunion as shown by the fact that net's only
daughter tintin is in the picture. so the reunion was held
after the wedding.

then i showed them pictures taken during that reunion in
fairview which kuyang romy and linda attended. there was
this picture showing kuyang romy, sorcio. kuyang salvador
and myself together in one table having conversation. then

there was this p;icture showing kuyang romy and linda in a
table with other relatives and a son of ate zeny, totoy,
holding the mike and rendering a song. and also pictures of
kuyang salvador and ate zeny dancing. and of kuyang salvador
singing. and also of myself singing, and also dancing with
baby. also kuiyang ted dancing with relatives. there was
also a picture of kuyang ted, ate ine, cecile, amang, and
boy paulino and kuyang salvador in one table. and several
other pictures of family members together in one table or
just standing and having conversations. the pictures were
in an envelope sent by allan and tess from georgia to
caloocan. so, the pictures must have been taken from the
camera of allan and tess. kuyang romy
and ate zeny took one or two pictures each so they said
they could have some remembrance of that reunion.

we all noted though that we all forgot at the time to pose
for one group picture. so, we decided to have one such group
picture taken this time before anyone left.
still we failed to do so because kuyang
renee's family left already before we could have the
group picture taken. although, we also had a group picture
with kuyang renee's family in front of the house before
they left. and we had another group picture taken inside
with those who still stayed behind. so more or less, we will
have one picture or two of those who were in attendance.

i really wish there were who could come but some had
other appointments to keep or were out ot town. such a
short notice of the reunion was just not enough. but all in
all i think everyone had a pleasant time at the reunion.

before i forget, i gave kuyang romy the amount you said i
should give him.

i guess, this is all for now.

galing ako sa cardiologist ko last month kasi nagkaroon ako ng chest pain... ang findings ay nagkakaroon ng naman ng bara ang mga arteries ko sa heart...last saturday lang, ay tinakbo ako nila allan at tita baby mo sa emergeny kasi nagkaroon ako ulit ng chest pain na tumagal ng mahigit sa 15 minutes....buti na lang ay hindi naman pala heart attack yon... dahil sa nangyari sa uncle toco mo, siempre masyado akong natakot...



kaya ako nasa fb ay para lang magkaroon ako ng libangan...para mawala yong stress ng trabaho ko at ng ibang problema sa buhay...kung nakikita mo, nagcocompose na lang ako ng mga kanta tungkol sa romblon...at yan ang pinopost ko sa fb... dagdag yan doon sa mga dati kong kantang sinulat noong nandyan pa ako...



ang purpose ko dyan ay para lang mailagay ulit sa kaalaman ng mga taga romblon, lalo na yong kabataan, ang ala-ala ng mga lolo at lola mo sa romblon... kasi, wala naman akong kakayahan na gumawa ng ibang projects to perpetuate their memory in the minds and hearts of the people of romblon...yong ngang si dr fonte, naglalagay each year sa souvenir program ng fiesta ng announcement sa back page na kung maaari ay lagi ma remember ng mga taga romblon yong kanyang mga magulang...malaking halaga din ang ginagastos nya para sa bagay na yan.. pero kayang kaya nya kasi doctor sya sa california at doctora din yon missis nya...kaya sa fb ko, gusto ko lang maka establish ng goodwill among other fbs ng mga taga romblon...



ayaw ko nang mag express ng mga personal views ko about controversal topics involving romblon...kasi nga bawat taga romblon may kani kanilang pananaw tungkol sa mga bagay na yan...ayaw ko nang makipag debate pa about such topics... kasi wala din naman akong magagawa tungkol sa mga bagay na yan... stress lang ang aabotin ko sa mga ganyan..eh masama na nga ang stress sa akin...



anyway, dahil sa mga naisulat kong songs, both yong dati at yong mga bago, na naipost ko sa fb, at itinatag ko sa mga fb ng mga taga romblon, medyo napansin ako ng mga fbs na yan... at isa na nga dyan yong romblon high fb...at na request nga ako na sumulat ng lyrics ng gawad alumni award 2010 ng romblon high...sabi ko nga doon sa isang email ko, noong una ay nag decline ako kasi akala ko hindi ko kayang magsulat ng lyrics para sa ganyang kanta...pero ni request nila ulit ako...at nag decline ulit ako...pero noong inulit pa rin nila yong request, ok sabi ko susubukan ko at hiningi ko nga lahat ng materials nila about the project...



at yong nga yong sinulat ko ang inadopt nila as "himig ng gawad award" although pinalitan nila yong first line noong last stanza, at yong title ay tinagalog nila... kasi yong aking original line ay..."ikaw ang nahirang na gawad alumni awardee sa taong ito..." ang sinulat nila ay "ikaw ang nahirang na pinarangalan ng gawad alumni sa taong ito..." sa tingin ko mas mahirap kantahin yong nilagay nilang line pero ok na rin sa akin yon...



actualy, just between us, disappointed nga ako sa naging reaction ng mga kamag-anak at friends ko na pinaldhan ko ng email about this deveopment... in reality, sa dami ng pinadalhan ko ng email na yan, isa o dalawa lang ang sumagot at ni isa walang nagsabi ng "congratulations for a job well done"...



sabihin mo nga sa akin, ano ang dahilan kung bakit walang naka appreciate sa aking nagawa...ikaw na magaling ang ear sa music at sa guitara, sabihin mo nga sa akin kung madali lang gumawa ng melody at lyrics ng kanta...



samantalang, may isa akong nakilala ko sa fb, na graduate pa sa UP sa piano, na nirequest ko kung puede niyang gawan ng music yong himig na yan... ang sabi sa akin, marunong daw syang tumugtog ng piano, pero ni minsan hindi pa raw sya nakapag cocompose ng kanyang music...huwag na lang yon, sa tingin mo ba ganoon ka dali magsulat ng lyrics ng isang kanta...yong mga lyrics ba na tinag ko sa iyo, sa tingin mo ba, madali lang isulat yong mga yon...hindi naman yong mga pictures ang importante doon kundi yong lyrics na sinulat ko...siempre mali din kasi ako sa paglagay ng mga nasabing pictures...noong una kasi akala ko makakatulong doon sa lyrics ko..



sana ang sinabi mo ay uncle walang kwenta yan sinulat mong lyrics...mas natuwa pa sana ako... kasi, malalaman ko kung maganda o hindi yong lyrics na sinulat ko...



yong mga well-founded views mo about the lack of development plans for romblon on the part of politicians at government officials there ay ipost mo doon sa mga fb na talagang designed for that specific purpose..or ilagay mo yan doon as comments sa mga pictures of romblon na pinopost nila sa fb...ako kasi pinapirate ko lang yang mga pictures na ginagamit ko sa mga lyrics ng songs na pinopost ko sa fb...



kung doon mo din ilalagay yong mga views mo sa pictures na kasama ng lyrics na ipinost ko, ang attention ng mga makakabasa ng mga views mo ay mapupunta doon nga sa views na pinopost mo at hindi sa lyrics na ipinost ko...sa halip na pagtiyagaan nila na basahin yong mga lyrics ko na medyo may kahabaan din naman ay doon na sa mga well-founded views mo sila magconcentrate..



gusto ko sana na supportahan mo yong aking sinusulat na mga lyrics at sabihin mo na gusto mo ito...o hindi...para naman magka interest yong iba na basahin din itong mga lyrics na ito...kung wala lang yong mga lyrics ko doon sa mga pictures na binatikos mo ay ok lang sa akin yong mga sinabi mo...may katuwiran ka naman para sabihin iyon...



sana, maintindihan mo lahat ang sinabi ko dito...paki usap ko lang ito.. kasi nga sabi ko sa iyo, ikaw na lang dyan ang ina-asahn ko na maging leader ng ating pamilya...wala nang iba...pinagmamalaki kita sa lahat ng mga kamag-anak natin at nasa iyo ang aking supporta sa mga hakbang mo sa buhay... kamusta na lang dyan sa inyong lahat...

How lolo Badong, Sr's children got their names..

there is a story about how my brothers and i got our names... when my oldest brother was born after my two elder sisters, my father was so excited that he named his new born son after him..."salvador"... he was called "junior", "baby" or "badong"...then came my other brother after another sister of mine...my father named him after my father's younger brother "teodoro"... that is why there are other "teodoro's" in the acejas family in capiz...then came my next brother, and my father named him after my father's other younger brother,..."jose"... he was called "pepito" or "joe" by his classmates, among whom were chu benedicto, your brother, and norvell lim and vertudez fonte...when i came, my father no longer had any brother to name me after, so he named me "silvestre" after my grandfather...my sisters were named by my father in terms of dawn, little rose and star...respectively... so my oldest sister is called "aurora", and my next sister,"rosina", and my third sister, "estrella"...this is how we all got hour names...



then my brother "salvador, named all his sons with names bearing the the name,"salvador," and some of his daughters with the name of my mother "florentina"...kuyang ted, or teodoro, who was a cpa, and married a lady with the family name of "paulino"... so they named their only son and daughters with names bearing the initials CPA...then kuyang pepito or joe also named his sons with names starting with "Jo" or "jose".... in my case, i named my two boys "albert" and "alvin" and my first daughter "ana gloria" and my second daughter "anna luisa"...all starting with the letter "A" because their mother's family name also starts with the letter "A" ate aurora gave her children "royal blood" names, like winston, edward, maria elizabeth, maria victoria, who are identical twins, and the youngest, albert valentino...my ate rosing, named her sons with names ending in the letter "O" o rhyme with their family name "costo", and her daughters after my mother, anita florentina, and after her own name, rose... i don't know how my ate ester named her children because we practically lost contact with each other after she left the philippines in 1960 to work as a nurse in the united states...

it wrote the email in tagalog because i have difficulty writing in
english particularly about grammar and spelling.) in addition, i
requested your mom to greet you a happy birthday (november 9) in behalf
of all of us here in riverdale, georgia. and since she mentioned
something like your passing the bar was such a nice anniversary gift so
i also wished her a very happy anniversary, telling her that indeed this
was such a very nice anniversary gift. then i reminded her that perhaps
this time you would be kind enough to send me a copy of your graduation
picture with your autograph which i had requested from her when she told
me about your law school graduation. then i said it would be a such a
big bonus if in addition you could send me an autographed picture of
your oath- taking as a full-fledged lawyer. i told your mother that of
course i am also proud to have a niece (pamangkin) who is a lawyer here
in the united states. ( i have two nephews who are lawyers in the
philippines.) then i asked her what line of practice you will specialize
in or in what state you will practice. and also i was curious if you had
any plans of taking a masters degree in law from harvard or yale. in
closing, i said once again congratulations and more power to you and we
wish you all the best.

the above is supposed to be a translation of my attached letter to your
mom. it only took me a few minutes to write said letter and it took me
more time to do the translation because seriously i had to check the
dictionary for my spelling as i went along. but i hope this would serve
as your first lesson in tagalog so that when i write again i wouldn't
have to do two versions of one and the same letter. hope to hear from
you soon.
