an unexpected turnaround in my round of golf....oct 17, 2011
when i finished my front nine today (oct 17) with a score of 54, i thought it was going to be just another disastrous round of golf.... and it even became increasingly clear this was going to be the case when i made a double par 6 on the 10th hole.... and though i reached the green in 4 on the next hole, and one-putted for a bogey.... and reached the green in 3 on the next hole and two-putted for a bogey, i didn't see any hope for a miraculous recovery....but on the next hole, i hit the green with the driver from the black tee across water from a distance of 206 yards (as per score card), and then two-putted for a par...well, i thought that that would be perhaps the only consolation i could get from this round... but then came the par 5, 14th hole, which i reached in four to make a bogey 6....well, i said maybe, i still had the ghost of a chance of making something out of the round.... still hoping against hope...then i reached the 15th hole in 3, and two-putted for a bogey 5....then hit the green the next hole and two-putted for a par 3, then pitched to within inches of the hole on the par 5, 17th hole, for a tap in par....that par, i said, should just be the second most gratifying highlight of the round....but before i hit my driver on the 18th tee, i tried to add up my score on the back nine, and suddenly i realized still had a very good chance to break 100... that i thought could turn the round into a most satisfyng one....and though i pulled my second shot into thick rough, i was lucky enough to hit the green in 3 and to two-putt for a bogey 5....and when i added my score on the back 9, it all came up to a 43....making a total of 97 for the day... the second time that i've broken a 100 from the tips in the last two months...which is more, i had only one mulligan in this whole round, and i had it on the front nine...this makes my back nine score really something special...
